I am a 27 year-old healthy woman who contracted this infection during an emergency C-section at 2:00 on October 2, 2002. On Friday the fourth, two days after having my son, around 11:00, my OB came in and noticed that the area around my C-section incision was red and you could feel air pockets under the skin (apparently this was from the bacteria). He immediately ordered a CAT scan and once they read the CAT scan and found out what it was, I was rushed in to surgery about an hour later.

I didn't realize then how concerned he was and why - but I do now. I am so grateful that I was still in the hospital when it reared its ugly head. It could have been soooooooooooo much worse. It had only spread to tissue and had not gotten to any organs, but it was spreading fast. This is a very scary infection because of how fast it can spread. I wish I had pictures of the incision afterward though. It had to be left open to heal from the inside out. It took forever to heal completely. I still had an open wound two months afterward.

My husband was wonderful though. He would unpack and repack that wound twice a day, coming home at lunch to do it. He never complained, although I wasn't always the easiest patient. I have one more (hopefully) follow-up the week after next. Hopefully everything has healed the way it's supposed to and I am on my way to feeling 100 percent. I feel so grateful that I was so lucky and I would love to be able to help others through this!!! If I can be of any help, please contact me
