I survived NF by 2 hours. I was misdiagnosed 3 times before I was airlifted to Wichita, KS, and operated on immediately. I was in the hospital for 2 months and still in pain from the damage done to my leg. I would like to hear from other people with this problem. I am 68 yrs. old. I just got sick and seemed to ache all over especially in my lower stomach area. I had sweats where my bed was all wet. I was constipated. I went to the emergency room and they gave me medicine for my bowls. The next day I went back to the emergency room and they gave me medicine for prostitus. I was still in pain and went back to the emergency room and they finally admitted me and still treated me for prostitus. In about 24 hrs my leg and stomach started swelling and the doctors here in Hays, Kansas decided they couldn't treat me so they decided to airlift me to Wichita, Kansas. Within 30 minutes they operated on me and opened my whole right side taking all the infected flesh. They thought they would have to take my right leg, but decided not to. I lost my muscles in the leg and my nerves and glands. I can't remember anything during all this time of about three weeks. After a month they moved me to a rehab hospital for a month. I now have to take pain pills of hydrocone and gabapentin for nerve damage. It has been 10 months since all this started. When I was in the hospital I was in the burn center. The doctor used a new method called V.A.C. instill therapy which shortened my hospital stay by 30 days. I can walk but I have trouble with my leg swelling and I have hernia's on my right side because of no muscle.
